San Francisco�s Coup de Ska plays old-school instrumental ska and Jamaican jazz, as if the original Skatalites were still going strong, when trombonist Don Drummond and saxophonists Tommy McCook and Rolando Alphonso created the sound that led to reggae, along with keyboard wiz Jackie Mittoo. When Coup de Ska hits the stage, it feels as if we�re all back in Jamaica in 1964 with some of the hottest island dance music and jazzy solos around. Coup de Ska is trombonist Pete Alcorn, guitarist Igor Belogolovsky, saxophonist Jacob Covington, trumpeter Mike Garcia, bassist Jake Myers, and drummer Brian Schwartz. www.myspace.com/coupdeska

Thanks to Deepak Gupta for taking these awesome pictures at the Beale St show! Thanks to everyone who come out—we had a great turnout and an amazing time. Brian (drums) and Mike (trumpet) played their first show as members of the revolution, and quickly became the new stars. We're really excited about taking our sound to a new level!

Doors are at 9:00 pm, and we go on first, so get there early!

Return of the Coup

After a short hiatus while we kept up the resistance during the last days of the old regime, Coup de Ska returns in full force with two shows in two weeks!

On Jan. 31, we're playing Amnesia with the famous ska band Franco Nero! Doors are at 9:00 pm, and we go on first. Join us for some of the best Ska in the Bay Area!

On Feb. 6, the revolution returns to North Beach, where we re-visit one of our favorite venues, Grant & Green. We'll be joined by the Whiskey Avengers from San Jose for an awesome night of dancing and music in one of San Francisco's coolest dives.

Coup de Ska returns to the Mission on Monday, Nov 24, bringing the musical revolution to the Elbo Room at 647 Valencia St. The night starts out with the Impalers and will feature some of your favorite DJs. And there's rumors of $2 drink specials!
